| For The Love Of My Gurls + Know Your Lemons
Too often young, Black women unaware of their risk are dismissed by doctors and end up with delayed, more advanced breast cancer diagnoses. We created For the Love of My Gurls to educate young Black women about their risks for breast cancer, to initiate and normalize family conversations about their HERstories, to teach them how to advocate for themselves, and to adopt checking their breasts as an act of self-care.
This week on The Doctor Is In meet our friends Aeisha Taylor and Nikeia Watson, trainers from the Know Your Lemons Foundation. Know Your Lemons was founded to help improve early detection of breast cancer through symptoms and screening education in a fun, accessible, and inclusive way. Their vision is a world where fewer women and men are diagnosed with breast cancer at late stages, because they can more easily recognize and report symptoms, and when no symptoms are apparent, get screened for breast cancer. They are on a mission to improve early detection of breast cancer worldwide through three initiatives: their early detection app, classes taught by trained volunteer educators, and their global campaign available on social, in print, and online in over 30 languages.
Hayley Brown, our Director of Programs and Partnerships and Co-host of Pink Table Talk, will be joining us also to talk about For The Love Of My Gurls, the importance of Black Breast Health, and our belief that checking your breasts should be an act of self-care, not based on a fear of cancer. |
