Carson Kit Fox's Guide to a Fun Summer

Hi there, adventurers! I'm Carson Kit Fox, the official mascot of Nevada State Parks! I'm here to help everyone explore, learn, and have fun in the incredible parks we have across this beautiful state.

I invite you and the young explorers in your life to try my favorite activities below!

Visit the Elgin Schoolhouse State Historic Site

Immerse yourself into life as a 20th century grade-schooler in this rural one-room schoolhouse. Experience school without today's amenities, discover many of the schools' original items, and visit the teacher's attached apartment.

Tours of the Schoolhouse are available on the first Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by appointment.

Become a Junior Ranger

Children of all ages can complete a free activity book during a visit to any of Nevada's beautiful state parks for an official Junior Ranger badge.

Activities include creating a sound map, interviewing a park ranger, identifying scat and animal tracks, and much more!
Click here to download the booklet, or stop by the visitor center at any state park.

Keep it Clean with Leave No Trace Principles

  • Keep Wildlife Wild - Observe wildlife from a distance and never approach, feed, or follow them.
  • Leave It As You Find It - Leave plants, animals, rocks, and artifacts where you find them so other visitors and future generations may enjoy them.
  • Stick to Trails - Hike on designated trails to help protect park resources and keep the park beautiful.
  • Trash Your Trash - Make sure your trash ends up in a trashcan or dumpster, and recycle when possible.

Important Reminders for Fire Restrictions and
Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB)

Stay up to date with current restrictions and advisories to stay safe, responsible, and knowledgeable during your visits this summer!
