Why Movable Tiny Houses Need Clear Code Now - Not in 2030

Movable Tiny Houses Need Clear Code Now Before 2030

There is a major decision coming that could shape how movable tiny houses are recognized, regulated, and placed across the country. The timing matters more than most people realize.

We are now just one week away from a decision that could help create clearer, more consistent standards for movable tiny houses. If this effort does not move forward now, the next opportunity may not come until 2030.

That is not a small delay. That is years of continued confusion, inconsistency, and unnecessary barriers for people already living in these homes.

This is not a theoretical conversation. This is about whether movable tiny houses, homes that real people have been living in for more than a decade, are finally treated as what they are: real dwellings deserving of clear recognition, sensible regulation, and consistent standards.

In this important conversation, Jewel Pearson is joined by Macy Miller of Minimotives, who has been leading this effort, and Vera Struck, whom are directly involved in this work. Together, they talk about what this code effort actually is, why it matters right now, what we are seeing on the ground, and what is at stake if this does not move forward.

This discussion goes beyond policy language. It is grounded in lived experience. You will hear directly from people who are not just talking about movable tiny houses in theory, but who are working in this space and living it every day.

Why This Matters

Movable tiny houses already exist. People are already living in them. But without clear code language, everything depends on interpretation. That creates instability from one community to another and leaves too many people in gray areas when it comes to placement, recognition, and regulation.

When standards are unclear, people are left navigating confusion instead of building stability.

That matters because tiny houses can offer something incredibly important: a more realistic path to homeownership, security, and financial flexibility for people who may otherwise be locked out of traditional housing options.

For many communities, especially those that have historically had less access to homeownership,  movable tiny houses represent opportunity. But that opportunity only works if these homes are recognized for what they are.

This work takes advocacy, engineering, and representation in important rooms like the ICC hearings. It takes people showing up, speaking clearly, and pushing for language that reflects reality.

The Bottom Line

Tiny houses are not new. People are already living in them. The real question is whether we are going to regulate them with clarity and common sense,  or continue leaving people in limbo.

Now is the time to speak up.

Watch the conversation. Share it. Sign the petition. Support the effort if you can.

Because waiting until 2030 is not a solution.
