What we're doing to help.

As events have unfolded over the past week, we've been watching and listening closely. Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd are just the latest in a long list of people who've suffered from violence and police brutality. From children like Emmett Till and activists like Medgar Evers to Michael Brown, Nia Wilson, and countless others whose names we may never learn. We stand with those that need their voices heard and demands met.

We're committed to using our platform to effectively drive change, and change starts at home. That's why these steps are just the beginning of our call for change:

• We joined the ACLU in calling for an independent review of the facts

• We've donated to the Minnesota Freedom Fund to support legal defenses for incarcerated populations

• We are a member of the NAACP's criminal justice efforts

• We have signed on as an ally in Black Tech for Black Lives

In addition, today we launched the Black-Owned Restaurants collection. Each and every order from this collection will be delivered free—find these restaurants by searching "Black Owned" in the app.

We want to extend this collection to businesses that have previously been unserved by delivery platforms. If you know a business in your area that you'd like to support, write to us at Black-owned@postmates.com

This is just the beginning of the changes we are planning to make. We stand with the Black Lives Matter movement, our restaurant partners, our Postmates Fleet, and each of you across the country.

A Mother in the Classroom: My Journey with United Readers and What Comes Next

  This past year has been one of the most transformative chapters of my life. As an AmeriCorps Member and United Readers Literacy Mentor through United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierras (UWNNS), I had the honor of serving in the classroom of Cottonwood Elementary School in Fernley, Nevada. But I wasn’t walking this path alone, my eldest daughter, Donica Davis-DeLoney, served beside me at Cottonwood, and my youngest daughter, DonRica Davis-DeLoney, mentored students at EC Best Elementary School in Fallon. Together, we were not only literacy mentors, we were mother figures, life coaches, safe space holders, and, most importantly, part of a village nurturing the next generation of readers.
