Holiday Season vs. Holiday Blues

After Halloween many people begin to enter the Holiday Season mood.  Many will begin to think about Thanksgiving and Christmas in a joyful spirit.  For many it may bring on anxiety and depression.

Key to enjoying the Holiday Season:

  1.   Plan ahead.  That may include, deciding if you are going to cook or not;  stay home or not;  invite guests or not;  have overnight guests or not
  2.   If you are considering hosting, please plan out your meals ahead of time including what can be prepared prior to the day of the gathering.  
  3.   Making a list of  "things to do", and shopping in advance will alleviate stress.
  4.   Doing laundry in advance and having spare sets of towels, sheets, dishes, and toiletries will make your hosting stress free while allowing more time for interacting with company. 
  5.   If you are in an area where you do not have many friends or family,  please consider inquiring about classmates, coworkers, neighbors plans for the season.  Maybe you would enjoy hosting or sharing the holidays with them at their place.
  6.   Consider volunteering at local community centers, homeless shelters, and churches.  Volunteering can bring so much happiness.
  7.   Inquire about the happenings at dwelling (apartment complexes, senior living) community rooms, senior centers, community centers, and spiritual gathering places. 
  8.   To keep your budget in perspective:  View local sales papers and create shopping lists as you go; Consider bargain (99 cents stores) and thrift shops first, and utilize coupons and specials. 
  9.    Be open to help and suggestions.
  10.    Remember to pace yourself, and keep in mind what the holidays truly mean to you.
